Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Course
Developed by NAEMT’s Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Committee, the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) program is based on the guidelines from the Committee on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (Co-TECC) and the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) program. TECC uses lessons learned from our military and applies them to the civilian world of tactical medicine. This 3 day 24-hour course covers topics designed to decrease preventable death in the tactical situation. Topics include: Hemorrhage control; surgical airway control and needle decompression; strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments; caring for pediatric patients; and techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety.
Pre-Hospital Provider K-9 Medical Course
VAMS Pre-Hospital Provider K-9 Medical Course is designed to meet the needs of pre-hospital providers supporting K9 operations, or providers serving in an area with the potential for an encounter with a sick or wounded K9. This course also supports the educational needs of providers that provided direct care to operational K9s in support of SAR and USAR operations
Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course (Provider)
TCCC has become the standard of care for the tactical management of combat casualties within the Department of Defense and is the sole standard of care dually endorsed by both the American College of Surgeons and the NAEMT for casualty management in tactical environments. The focus of the instruction is to give the operator the ability to recognize, evaluate and control life threatening wounds, airway compromise and chest trauma, that present during a tactical mission by using an IFAK (individual first aid kit) and aid bag. Combat medical personnel and non-medical combatants in the U.S. and most coalition militaries are now being trained to manage combat trauma on the battlefield in accordance with TCCC Guidelines. This 3 day 24-hour course covers topics designed to decrease preventable death in tactical situations.

Wilderness Technical Rope Rescue & Extrication Course
The Technical Rope Rescue & Extrication Course is a 5 day 56-hour course designed to prepare participants to meet the education and training skills, along with experience required to conduct Technical Rope Rescue & Extrication of patients located in low to high-angle wilderness environments. This course provides participants the basic fundamentals in the use of equipment, anchor systems, rappelling, lowering and raising systems, as well as critical thinking skills to make sound judgments necessary to conduct these activities safely and effectively. After completing this course, students will have the knowledge, skills, and experience to operate as a new member of a Wilderness Technical Rescue Team. VAMS also can customize this course to meet the needs of agencies/teams and their specific response terrain and operational level.
Wilderness First Aid Course
Our Wilderness First Aid Course is designed for the outdoor enthusiast who spends time hiking, backpacking, camping, or any amount of time adventuring outdoors. This 16 hour course spends 2 days in a fast-paced and challenging environment which teaches students the skills required to manage medical illness and traumatic injuries encountered in the wilderness. Our WFA course will help you prepare for the unexpected with a fun, hands-on introduction to wilderness medical care. This course is great for people of all ages and experiences, best-suited for those who recreate outdoors where EMS response is expected in a timely manner (< 8 hours). Students who may benefit from a WFA include those who: take short trips relatively close to help, work at wilderness camps, enjoy weekend family outdoor activities, and/or participate in local outdoor recreation.

Handler Tactical Operational Medicine Course
VAMS K-9 Handler Tactical Operational Medicine Course is designed to meet the needs of Operational K-9 Handlers, First Responders and combat medics supporting K-9 operations. Handlers and or providers serving in an area with the potential for an encounter with a sick or wounded K-9. This 24 hour comprehsive course focusing on the TCCC guidelines as well as focuses on the trauma, illnesses and environmental emergencies that we can encounter when K-9s are deployed.
